</p><p>Gov Yates I am a sick soldier and according to justis I think I am entitled to a discharge from service, I have bin unfit for duty for the last eight months, on the 8th of May I received a furlough to go home I arrived home on the 25th I found my family in a suffering condition I have a wife and two children and a father and mother that are dependent upon me for thare suport, my Father and Mother are boath intierley helpeless one

<hr /> being 78 and the other 77 years old. my children are boath small one 3 and the other 1 year old I am poor and with what I can get from government will not keep them comfertable
<p>I think I am getting some better and if I could get home this fall I could be some assistance to them I think I would be doing to my God and Country by releaveing the soufferings of my Parents and children than I can posiable do in the field, if I can have any assistance it woold be gratefuly received

</p><p>On Saturday a poor Irish Soldier presented himself at these HeadQuarters asking transportation to join his Regiment in the front. He seemed much worn down and broken in spirit whilst telling me his sad story. He had been to Iowa to try to learn the fate of his children and comes back impressed with the belief that they have all been murdered by the man Williams who with his son a youth of 17.

<p>he says are both deserters from the 119th Ills Regt. Vol Infy. He learned that they had gone to Idaho, and he thought that if I would write to you that you could communicate his story to the Governor of Colorado, Idaho, Nevada & Montana and join in a general effort to hunt this man Williams around the world.
</p><p>I have written General Fiske at St Joseph desiring him to communicate with military commanders throughout the country West of him. and as I promised the soldier, Governor, I send you this. He seemed to think that Governor Yates could have the scoundrel caught and to believe that nothing was impossible for you to do

</p><p>On Saturday a poor Irish Soldier presented himself at these HeadQuarters asking transportation to join his Regiment in the front. He seemed much worn down and broken in spirit whilst telling me his sad story. He had been to Iowa to try to learn the fate of his children and comes back impressed with the belief that they have all been murdered by the man Williams who with his son a youth of 17.

<p>he says are both deserters from the 119th Ills Regt. Vol Infy. He learned that they had gone to Idaho, and he thought that if I would write to you that you could communicate his story to the Governor of Colorado, Idaho, Nevada & Montana and join in a general effort to hunt this man Williams around the world.
</p><p>I have written General Fiske at St Joseph desiring him to communicate with military commanders throughout the country West of him. and as I promised the soldier, Governor, I send you this. He seemed to think that Governor Yates could have the scoundrel caught and to believe that nothing was impossible for you to do

</p><p>I received yours of the 19th Containing $2.00 informing me that you had sent one to me by mistake (Containing $5) to Louisville There happened to be some officers in my tent from Louisville and I wrote a note by them to be droped in the office for the Steward of Hosp No 4 requesting him to forward me the afforesaid letter. I think I will get it soon. I am quite sick. I was taken the day I wrote you with a severe chill and fever, in the night an inflimation of the liver and kidneys causing

<p>the most intence pain lasting some 48 hours. I could rest in no position. The Dr gave me blue mass which relieved me to some extent. I have been taking medicine occasionally ever since, I was taken. I am taking a pill every 4 hours to day my liver is as dead as a piece of soleather the doctor says. I don't like the Dr he seams to be to dilitery, Old and neglectfull of his duties, wish I had Dr. Simpson with me a while, I am not in much pain now, think I will get better soon.

<p>prevent. There was a lot of Ills soldiers sent to their own state yesterday. their names wer taken about a week before I came. I could not get my name on the list as the had got transportation only for those whos names had been taken, I don't know whether I will get home or not. If I could get a special order from Gov Yates to transfer me to Camp Butler I would be all right, I would soon be at home and could get along much better. I am quite weak and sick, the medicine I am taking makes me sicker than I would be to day

</p><p>A friend of mine Jacob Littleton Esqr of Peoria who is a good and loyal citizen has a cousin of his wife who is now a prisoner at Johnsons Island He is a young man that Mr Littleton partly raised He assures me that he was an unwilling soldier in the Rebel army Mr Littleton wishes to visit him at Johnsons Island and would like to have a letter from you recommending him to the favorable consideration of the commander of that place.
</p><p>I take great pleasure in recommending Mr Littleton to your favorable consideration and hope you will send to me a letter for him I have to leave this morning or I would call on you in person. Yours Truly
