No power on earth can make it right. I have been highly gratified & much pleased with your course as Gov., & especially <hr /> in relation to your vigilance for the comfort of our boys in the field. It has been suggested to me that Lieut. Col. Laughlin 94th Ill Inf Vol. for meritorious service deserves a Brevet commission. The Col commanded the advance against Ft Morgan and so skillfully and carefully that not one man was lost in making the approaches to that Fort. I know him to be a high minded gentleman and an honorable man and well meriting any mark of respect the government may give him. Have you any influence that could be made available in his case and if you have will you exert it in his behalf?
