Having just received through your hands an order from the Hon. Sec. of War, removing the disability resulting from my dismissal in Sept last, and thus leaving me again free to act.

I avail myself of this early opportunity to ask your Excellency's interposition in getting authority from the Secretary of War, to raise a command in this State for service in the field. I have numerous offers of men, both Veterans mustered out of Service and Citizens who desire to go in a command under me.

I can raise in a very short period of time a regiment of Soldiers who have served 3 years and over and by Connecting with them citizens three or four Regiments. As I have been unfortunate in getting wounded and in my dismissal I beg this privilege either for one of three years Service, believing that I can be of some use in the service in putting down this "unholy rebellion"

I pray your aid in getting me this permission.

Gov Richard Yates

Hon. Sir:

I am Gov Truly Your
Obt. Servt.

G.A. Smith

Decatur Sep 15 /64
G.A. Smith Col

Wants the Govr to interpose in getting authority from the Secty of War for him to raise a command for service in the State.

S. senator.-

Can you meet the people of Stark - as early in the campaign as possible - and bring out such a crowd as no other man can. and help us secure two Representatives who will help to send you to the Senate in the place of another "Dick" who now disgraces our State by occupying a seat there.- We have not heard from "Tom" since the Evacuation of Atlanta.- at last dates from him he was suffering with Diarrhea and was much reduced by it. but was trying to do his duty.- Let me

I would like to have some information as regards a soldiers time of servis. When the call that I came out in was for three years from the date of Aug but I was in Camp Butler three months before I was mustered in the servis. And it appears now that I have to stay three years from that muster so I am with some others a three year and three months Soldier there is no justice in this as some of our boys of Company C and B was mustered out of servis yesterday just because they were mustered on the 14th

and enlisted on the tenth and I came to Camp Butler on the 4th of oct and drew pay from that date I should think that I ought to go out at that date, but all the justice a solder gets is not worth mentioning if you could have us mustered out sooner than the 30 of Dec I would like it very much for I should like to be at home at the coming Election. My vote would count - one hand I am thinking if the soldiers did not get to vote that the Copperheads will gain the day.

So [No Never?]

Respected Sir

But [remain?] yours

Respected
