House of Representatives Political leadership--U.S. states Description An account of the resource Emil Jones, Jr. served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1972-1982 after working as a substitute teacher and insurance salesman. During his tenure in the Illinois House of Representatives he served as the House Assistant Minority Leader. In 1982 he won election to the Illinois Senate and became the Senate Minority Leader in 1993. Jones served as President of the Senate from 2003 until leaving office in 2009.
