</p><p>Seeing that a number of new regiments are to be raised in this state I supposed that more surgeons might be needed and so I offer my services if any more are needed or any vacancy exists. I am a graduate of the Ohio Med. College and have practiced twelve years.
</p><p>I spent five months last winter and Spring with Prof. Blackman who was medical director of Gen. Mitchell's Division of Ohio troops. For references I will refer you to Hon. William A Hacker, Col. William R. Morrison and Col. S. C. Taler.

You will doubtless remember that some months ago, in reply to an application by me for a place among the Illinois volunteers you said if I had applied sooner you could have given me a place as a field officer or in the quartermasters Department; and that should an opportunity occur you would yet do so -- or words to that effect.
</p><p>As there is now another call for troops, and being desirous to serve my country in some capacity wherein I may be useful, I have

</p><p>I write you for the purpose of asking your influence in a little matter. I have made application for the appointment of Major. of the new Regt which is to be raised in this <u>district</u>.
</p><p>I have also sent to Gov Yates a letter of recommendation signed by H. P. H. Bromwell. The Sheriff & clerk of the court also several of the most prominent men in the county. requesting my appointment.
